Regé-Jean Page has been considered a James Bond candidate for quite a while now, but the noise around this prospect was especially loud after the 38-year-old actor delivered a defining performance as the Duke of Hastings in Bridgerton. He spoke about the chatter in a new interview, calling it “strange” and “not normal.”

Regé-Jean Page, who dazzled the world with his portrayal of the Duke of Hastings in Bridgerton, recently spoke about the James Bond rumors that have been swirling around quite violently as of late.
Since Daniel Craig’s departure as the iconic British spy, there have been speculations about numerous actors taking the role of James Bond, including the likes of Idris Elba and Callum Turner. But the needle was also fixed at Regé-Jean Page for quite some time. There still seems to be speculation about him taking up the role.
In a new interview with Esquire UK, the actor opened up about this. “It is strange, it’s not normal,” Page said in reference to the period that followed his Bridgerton stint. “How I navigate it is very much about what is useful, what serves me in my job, in being able to deliver what I need to deliver to an audience, and a lot of that is just grounding.”
“It does get quite loud on the inside,” the actor added, “like it was very, very intense, that combination of conversation, and I think I worked quite consciously to be able to navigate that environment with some normalcy for myself.”
Since his breakout performance in Bridgerton Season 1 as Simon, the Duke of Hastings, the actor has continued to receive Bond queries. At the peak of these speculations, right after Page appeared in Bridgerton Season 1, he said that he was honored to be considered a candidate. He added that he saw this as a “merit badge” for up-and-coming British actors.
Rumors continue to swirl about the next James Bond, with no concrete confirmation of who could inherit Craig’s mantle.
