‘Suck in Your Stomach’: Riverdale’s Lili Reinhart on What a Male Director Told Her

Lili Reinhart has opened up about a past incident in her career wherein she received an acting note from an unnamed male director that she took personally. The Riverdale alum recently appeared in the comedy horror movie, Forbidden Fruits. Directed by Meredith Alloway, it is based on Lily Houghton’s stage play, Of the woman came the beginning of sin, and through her we all die. In addition to helming the film, Alloway co-wrote the script with Houghton.

Reinhart and her Forbidden Fruits co-stars, Victoria Pedretti, Lola Tung, and Alexandra Shipp, recently participated in a special interview for Cosmopolitan where they posed questions to each other. In one of the interactions, Pedretti asked the Riverdale alum, “What is one acting note that you took personally?”

She responded, “When I had a male director come up to me and silently lean over and go ‘Just suck in your stomach a little bit.'” This shocked her co-stars, who loudly gasped. Pedretti asked for a name, to which Reinhart said she’d tell later. Meanwhile, Tung repeatedly said, “Time for a hex,” while Shipp demanded to know the name.

Pedretti then enquired about the director’s address, while Reinhart maintained her refusal to reveal his name.

The director’s comment to Reinhart seems to have been about her physical appearance, which the actress has struggled with. This would explain why she had taken it personally.

In an interview with Self Magazine last year, the Chemical Hearts star, who discussed various health issues she experienced, including COVID, in the interview, revealed she had developed an eating disorder while filming Riverdale Season 6. “I really don’t like looking at season six imagery or pictures,” she shared. “Because I know that 99% of my thoughts were about my body.”

The Look Both Ways actress continued, “I was a thousand percent just disassociated through that entire day or scene because my entire inner dialogue is just… ‘Your body’s changing.’”

She also confirmed that she had been dealing with gut issues and unexplained weight gain, revealing she tested for both Celiac and Crohn’s disease. “I’ve done all of them,” she stated. “And my gut’s still like, ‘Hey, b***h, you got something. You just can’t figure out what it is.’”
