During a recent interview on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Ryan Gosling opened up about his childhood. He admitted that he did not have many friends growing up, so television became his “best friend.” He even confessed to pretending to be sick just so he could stay home from school to watch the famous daytime drama “Days of Our Lives.”
Gosling spoke very highly of the actors who work on these shows. He mentioned stars like Deidre Hall and said they do not get the respect they deserve. He explained that soap opera actors have to memorize nearly 10 pages of dialogue every single night. They often only get one chance to film a scene, even when the stories are very difficult or strange. Gosling called watching them an “incredible acting class” that helped him learn his own craft.
Even though Gosling is now a global superstar, he still remembers those early days fondly. He joked that his life “keeps crossing paths” with the show whenever it is on TV. “Days of Our Lives” is continuing to go strong, with many comings and goings in the series’ huge ensemble cast.
