Walton Goggins and Marion Cotillard cast in new movie about Book of Job
Marion Cotillard and Walton Goggins will lead Job, an upcoming film based on the biblical Book of Job. The project will be directed by Yuval Adler, who is also writing the screenplay, as per Variety.
The film centers on a couple played by Cotillard and Goggins, who set out to stage an ambitious and immersive adaptation of the Book of Job. In the original biblical account, Job endures devastating personal losses, including his wealth, children, and health, as his faith is tested. However, despite all the difficulties, he remains steadfast in his belief. As the couple develops their production, the emotional weight of the material begins to affect their relationship.
Adler’s film shifts between timelines. According to an early synopsis, the film will move between timelines, “juxtaposing the ancient wager between God and Satan with the modern-day unraveling of a marriage under pressure.” It further states, “as their private lives bleed into their performance, a standoff on set raises an unexpected question: who gets to play God?”
Speaking about the project, Adler said, “We want the film to feel both timeless and urgent — like the Book of Job itself. Together, Marion and Walton will elevate this story beyond anything I could have imagined on the page.”
Job will be produced by Dan Kagan and Ilya Stewart. Executive producers include Liz Siegal, Sean Patrick O’Reilly, Elena Silenok, Elvira Paterson, Vadim Degtyarev, Sergey Torchilin, Pavel Burian, Aleksandr Fomin, and Stuart Manashil.
Further details are expected to be announced as the project progresses.
