Shia LaBeouf Reportedly Arrested Again on Battery Charges

Actor Shia LaBeouf reportedly got arrested once again after surrendering to authorities in New Orleans on a new arrest warrant. The Transformers star now faces a third misdemeanor battery charge connected to a confrontation during Mardi Gras celebrations earlier this month.

The authorities arrested Shia LaBeouf on Saturday and charged him with one additional misdemeanor count of simple battery. The new charge stems from the same February 17 incident at R Bar in the Faubourg Marigny neighborhood that led to his initial arrest, according to the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office records.

LaBeouf’s attorney, Sarah Chervinsky, told the Associated Press that her client voluntarily turned himself in after learning New Orleans police had issued a new arrest warrant Friday. “No regular person would be required to post over $100,000 in bonds and be jailed two separate times for one misdemeanor incident,” Chervinsky said. “Just as he does not deserve preferential treatment, Mr. LaBeouf also does not deserve to be treated more harshly by the police and courts just because he is a public figure.”

The latest warrant brings the total number of alleged victims to three. Initial charges accused LaBeouf of punching one bartender multiple times and striking another in the face. Authorities also said he shouted homophobic slurs during the altercation. The new charge alleges he head-butted a third person.

Jeffrey Damnit, a local entertainer identified in police reports as Jeffrey Klein, told the Associated Press he was one of the people LaBeouf attacked that night. “He hit me, he connected a few times with punches, he pushed me a few times,” Damnit said. He described LaBeouf as having “just got nuts” and attempting to start fights while shouting homophobic slurs and threatening his life.

LaBeouf posted bond following Saturday’s hearing and was released after paying a $5,000 bond. He has not yet entered a plea in the case.
