Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra’s New Privacy Display Feature Is Breaking the Internet

Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is taking screen privacy to a whole new level with a display upgrade that would have some serious implications. This new feature was announced on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, during the company’s Galaxy Unpacked 2026 event. It would protect the side-eye gazes from anyone around with no need for additional darkening screen protectors.

Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra brings privacy display feature

Samsung announced a new feature for the Galaxy S26 Ultra at the company’s Galaxy Unpacked 2026 event. Addressing the concern of many users, Samsung has added a new feature to the flagship device. It will stop others from peeking into users’ screens and seeing private content (via CNET).

Some screen protectors previously gave access to this feature, but in turn darkened the screen permanently. But with this new feature, the privacy setting will be built into the screen itself. It means users will have access to this without any additional sacrifices to the quality of the display.

This technology relies on a combination of directional backlighting and an adaptive pixel layer, which controls which direction the light falls. By controlling the angles well, this prevents the phone from being seen from sharper angles when this privacy mode is activated. This will cause no issues for the primary viewer. The light emission will remain constant for the user viewing it from the front.

Samsung’s front-facing camera and ambient-awareness algorithms will also play a part in this by detecting if there are other faces in the field of view. If the device senses someone hovering nearby or glancing from the side, it can automatically trigger enhanced privacy mode. Moreover, users can set this feature up for particular apps like social media or banking.

This certainly seems like an essential feature that will slowly roll down to cheaper devices, too. But for now, only the flagship Samsung users will get the benefit of this added layer of privacy.
