Bad Bunny sported an off-white football jersey, which featured the number “64,” during his Super Bowl 60 Halftime show. Many wondered what the significance of the number was, with some speculating that it could be a tribute to his mother’s birth year. Some also thought it could be a subtle nod to the El Último Tour del Mundo album, which was the first Spanish project to top the Billboard 200 chart in 64 years.
Why did Bad Bunny wear ’64’ jersey?
In a statement released in Spanish to USA Today, Bad Bunny’s spokesperson revealed why he wore the ’64’ jersey and what significance the number holds. He mentioned that it was a tribute to his uncle, Cutito. He said, “1964 is the year my uncle Cutito was born, my mother’s brother. The little I know about the NFL is thanks to him.”
Bad Bunny shared that he always wished to take his uncle to the Super Bowl, but that dream never came to fruition as his uncle passed away in 2024. “My uncle passed away two years ago, shortly after the 49ers lost to Kansas City in the 2024 Super Bowl. I always dreamed of taking my uncle to a Super Bowl, and I couldn’t. He left unexpectedly, without warning. So in my Super Bowl halftime show, I decided to have him on my shirt: OCASIO, his last name, the same as my mom’s, and his date of birth, 64,” he added.
He shared that he dedicated the show to his uncle, adding that he believed his uncle was watching from above and would have been proud of him. “Now all that’s left is for the 49ers to win another Super Bowl,” he further added.
A few days before his performance, Bad Bunny revealed what it’s like to headline such a big event during a conversation with Access Hollywood’s Scott Evans. He said, “I just want to be there. I’m just ready to do it. I want to feel it. I want people to watch it and enjoy it.”
