The sci-fi series Extant, starring Halle Berry, will leave Netflix soon. Berry also served as an executive producer on the show alongside Steven Spielberg. Created by Mickey Fisher, it originally aired for two seasons on CBS.
Extant is leaving Netflix in February
Extant is set to leave Netflix on February 18, 2026. Additionally, the 2001 psychological thriller Don’t Say a Word, the 2017 documentary Perú: Tesoro escondido, and the 1974 classic horror movie The Texas Chainsaw Massacre will also leave the platform on the same day.
In Extant, Berry portrays Molly Woods, who is an astronaut with ISEA (International Space Exploration Agency). After spending 13 months in space, Molly returns to Earth and her family. However, things take a drastic turn when she discovers that she has inexplicably become pregnant.
The cast of the series also includes Goran Visnjic as Dr. John Woods, Pierce Gagnon as Ethan Woods, Grace Gummer as Julie Gelineau, Hiroyuki Sanada as Hideki Yasumoto, Tyler Hilton as Charlie Arthurs, Michael O’Neill as Alan Sparks, Jeffrey Dean Morgan as JD Richter, and Camryn Manheim as Dr. Sam Barton.
Season 1 of Extant premiered on CBS on July 9, 2014, and aired until September 17, 2014. The show returned with its second season on July 1, 2015, and aired until September 9, 2015. In October that year, CBS canceled the series.
This was despite the show garnering mostly positive reviews throughout its run. The first season currently has an 81% approval rating on the review-aggregating site Rotten Tomatoes, whereas Season 2 has received a 73% rating. Caralynn Lippo of TV Fanatic gave the sophomore chapter a positive review, noting the major changes that the series had employed from the first season and their impact on the plot.
“‘Change Scenario’ employed all of the best show reboot tools: there was a time jump, a swift shedding of excess baggage (farewell, John!), and an injection of new blood to get the ball rolling in a new direction,” Lippo wrote.
