Taylor Sheridan’s name is all over some of TV’s biggest hits, but that doesn’t mean he’s constantly hovering on set. According to Landman star Ali Larter, the show’s creator took a surprisingly hands-off approach during filming. As the Paramount+ series wrapped its second season, Larter opened up about Sheridan’s presence, creative style, and how the show found its rhythm in season 2.
Ali Larter on how many times Taylor Sheridan showed up on Landman set
Larter, who stars opposite Billy Bob Thornton in Landman, revealed that Sheridan was rarely physically present during season 2 production. “Taylor was only on set three times this year,” she said, noting that one of those visits was for the premiere’s white truffle scene. According to Larter, Sheridan likes to check in on key moments but otherwise trusts his team to carry things forward.
She explained that once Sheridan felt confident that things were moving in the right direction, he stepped back. “He kind of just let the train barrel ahead,” Larter said, suggesting that his absence wasn’t neglect but confidence in the people running the production day to day. She has previously described Sheridan as a “provocateur” (via People).
Much of that trust landed with director Stephen Kay, who helmed all 10 episodes of season 2. Larter praised him as a creative force, calling him “such a gift to the show” and “immensely talented.” With Kay steering every episode, the cast and crew had a steady vision even without Sheridan’s constant presence.
Larter also said season 2 helped audiences better understand what Landman is trying to be. “People understood what the show is,” she claimed, describing its shifting tones, from action to drama, romance, and humor. She warned viewers to expect a “roller coaster,” with emotional turns that can change quickly from scene to scene. Her character, Angela, benefited from that clarity as well. Larter said she works hard to show that Angela’s intentions are good, even when her behavior is questionable.
