Even though Nikki Glaser is an experienced stand-up comedian and is known for her great punchlines, the veteran still finds it challenging to land a perfect joke on Julia Roberts. Glaser is gearing up to host the Golden Globe Awards this year. In an interview with “CBS Mornings,” the actor talked in depth about the process of making jokes for a big event.
She said that crafting jokes for the awards show is a “strategic process.” This is because one has to be very “delicate about making jokes that aren’t going to ruin anyone’s night.” She further added that even though there needs to be some sensitivity around the jokes, one also needs to give people something they can laugh at. She continued that “one of the most difficult jobs” that she has ever done is to pick the perfect joke for the show, even more so, as there are some actors she has grown up admiring.
Talking about Julia Roberts, Glaser mentioned that it’s really challenging to make fun of her. She said, “I’m trying out my monologue around L.A. at the clubs here, and just even any joke about Julia Roberts, they’re not there for. You cannot make fun of America’s sweetheart.” She continued, “Whatever I end up saying about her, it is the most fine-tuned joke I have worked on so hard because it is very delicate.”
