You Won’t Guess the New Pizza Hut Flavor

Pizza Hut has introduced an unusual new pizza on their menu called “Kopi-zza.” The popular chain has launched a coffee-infused pizza. It is available exclusively in Brunei, a small nation on the island of Borneo. Interestingly, Kopi means coffee in Malay.

Pizza Hut unveils new pizza with a surprising ingredient

Pizza Hut initially launched the quirky coffee-infused pizza on November 30. The popular pizza chain blended the brand’s signature cheese-coated flaky pizzas with the lingering taste of freshly brewed coffee. And it seems like “Kopi-zza” has struck a chord with the residents of Brunei. On December 9, Pizza Hut Brunei’s official Instagram account shared a post of the delicious Kopi-zza and exciting news for fans.

The accompanying caption read, “Back by popular demand. Your favourite Coffee Pizza (Kopi-zza) is officially extended! If you missed it the first round… now’s your chance.” What started as a brief two-week run is now extended thanks to consumers’ overwhelming demand.

Pizza Hut admitted that the combination is “confusing at first.” However, they assured that one bite is all it takes to know “why everyone’s talking about it.” (via Dexerto).

Consumers shared some interesting fan reactions to Pizza Hut’s Kopi-zza. One user wrote, “Yum!” accompanied by a fire emoji. Another user commented, “This is goooood!” A few consumers joked that Italians wouldn’t approve of this. One user remarked, “Italians gonna cry from this one.” Finally, one user stated, “That is f*****g revolting, bro.”

For those unversed, there is an interesting history behind it as well. Southeast Asian bakeries adapted Mexican conchas, also known as buns, for their local customers. However, they swapped sugar toppings for coffee-flavored coatings. It quickly spread among residents of Brunei, Malaysia, and Singapore and came to be known as an enjoyable snack. Pizza Hut took that opportunity and thus created Kopizza to capitalise on customers’ love for coffee. (via Design Taxi).

It seems like Brunei’s locals are keen on trying funky flavour combinations. Back in September, Pizza Hut released a limited-edition Matcha Cheese Stuffed-Crust Pizza. It combines Pizza Hut’s signature taste with the earthy flavour of matcha. The pizza chain came up with a unique tagline as well: “Not your usual pizza, not your usual matcha.”
