Sydney Sweeney Talks About ‘Rejection’ Amid Christy Box Office Failure

Sydney Sweeney, one of the most popular names in the industry right now, recently talked about rejection in Hollywood and what she would like to say to new stars dreaming of making it big in Hollywood. The actress spoke about this after her film, Christy, flopped at the box office.

Sydney Sweeney talks about rejection

Sydney Sweeney has seen her share of failure in Hollywood. Most recently, Sweeney took up the role of Christy Martin in the boxer’s biopic, a role unlike any she had done before. But despite initial enthusiasm surrounding the project, it did not pan out well.

In fact, the film only earned $1.3 million after releasing in 2,011 theaters, averaging $649 per venue (via The Wrap), making it one of the worst-performing films of the year. Following this humbling experience, the Euphoria star shared some advice with the younger generation, while also mentioning the weight of rejection in Hollywood.

“Honestly, do it as long as you love it,” the 28-year-old actress said to PEOPLE in an exclusive interview ahead of her upcoming film, The Housemaid, where she stars alongside Amanda Seyfried. “You gotta love it a lot, because it’s really hard, and you’re going to be told ‘no’ more than you’re gonna be told ‘yes,'” the Anyone But You star added.

She continued, “You have to deal with rejection, and it’s a lot. So if you love it to your core, then none of that matters because … you’re getting to do what you love.”

Sydney Sweeney began acting in 2009, and since then, she has continued climbing the ladder in Hollywood. After several smaller roles, she broke out with Euphoria. Since then, the actress has regularly starred in Hollywood films.

Her most recent film, The Housemaid, will premiere on December 19, 2025, in the United States. She will also reportedly appear in the anticipated The Devil Wears Prada 2.
