As reported by Variety, Alexander Skarsgård will star in The Wolf Will Tear Your Immaculate Hands. The upcoming gothic horror film from Nathalie Álvarez Mesén is expected to be released in May 2026.

The movie will be Mesén’s second feature film. She previously directed Clara Sola, which won multiple Guldbagge Awards: Best Film, Best Direction, and Best Screenplay, and the Georges Delerue Award for Best Soundtrack/Sound Design at Film Fest Gent. Moreover, Clara Sola was selected as the Costa Rican entry for Best International Feature Film at the 94th Academy Awards.

Mesén co-wrote the film’s screenplay with acclaimed Icelandic novelist, poet, and screenwriter Sjón. Notably, Sjón previously co-wrote the screenplay for Robert Eggers’ The Northman, in which Skarsgård also starred in the lead role.

According to an official statement, The Wolf Will Tear Your Immaculate Hands will include Mesén’s “signature blend of intimate character work and magic realism, expanding it into a darker, more haunting period world.”

The film is set against the backdrop of the 1880s Pacific Northwest. Skarsgård plays a British widower who hires a Native American governess, educated at a Christian mission school, to teach his daughters. The film’s logline reads, “While preparing the eldest for an arranged marriage, a force within her begins to awaken, threatening everything she has been taught.”

Besides Skarsgård, the film’s cast includes Darla Contois, who will play the governess. Alongside her will be Bronte Carmichael, and Lily La Torre, who will play the widower’s daughters. Rounding out the cast are Forrest Goodluck and Pernilla August.

Hélène Louvart is the film’s cinematographer, while Marie-Hélène Dozo serves as the film’s editor. Meanwhile, Lina Nordqvist and Margrét Einarsdóttir serve as the production and costume designers, respectively.

Leading Arthouse banner TriArt will reportedly distribute the film in Sweden. Hobab CEO Nima Yousefi shared that the film’s international distributor would be revealed soon.
