Avatar: Fire and Ash‘s premiere is on the horizon, and it appears as though the third installment has some shocking twists in store, including an improbable alliance. The new film in the Avatar franchise is reportedly even bigger than The Way of Water in scale and will be even more action-packed. While talking about the film, producer Jamie Landau hinted at a possible alliance between Jake Sully and Quaritch.

Avatar: Fire and Ash producer says Quaritch’s hatred for Jake is not ‘as clear cut and dry’
Quaritch has served as the primary villain in the past two films. However, the third film will also introduce the Ash People, a fire clan led by Oona Chaplin’s Varang. It’s widely speculated that Quaritch will team up with the Ash People to take on Jake Sully and the Na’vi.
However, producer Jamie Landau hinted that Avatar 3 may even see an alliance between Jake and Quaritch. While speaking to SFX magazine, he said, “Quaritch has this hatred against Jake. But he’s found it’s not as clear cut and dry for him to just blow them all out of the water,” Landau said.
“Making this alliance with the Ash People really steps up the stakes. We’ve seen Jake go against RDA forces, but they’re humans mostly, with mass weaponry. But what happens when somebody who knows [Na’vi] fighting tactics is now given the weapons of humans? The level of action that we’re able to see in this one is quite a step up from The Way Of Water, which was already spectacular action,” Landau added.
This is not the first time that someone from the franchise has hinted at Quaritch’s redemption. In a previous interview with Empire Magazine, James Cameron also spoke about a possible redemption arc for Quaritch. The veteran director said, “It’s very uninteresting to just have two guys trying to kill each other for three movies. So, it gets much snakier. Quaritch’s soul is very much in play in movie three.”
Avatar: Fire and Ash will premiere in theatres on December 19, 2025.
