In an interview with British Vogue, Margot Robbie revealed that a specific gesture by co-star Jacob Elordi during the filming of Wuthering Heights “almost made [her] weak at the knees.” She described one scene where “he picks Cathy up – with only one arm!” and another where “he shields her face from the rain.” Robbie added, “It was the little things that we loved as two women in our 30s, and this movie is primarily for people in our demographic.”

Robbie stars as Cathy opposite Elordi’s Heathcliff in Emerald Fennell’s adaptation of Emily Brontë’s novel. Despite audience expectations of explicit content following Fennell’s Saltburn, Robbie clarified, “Everyone’s expecting this to be very, very raunchy. I think people will be surprised. It’s more romantic than provocative. This is a big epic romance.”

Robbie began shooting just three months postpartum and acknowledged her initial concerns. “I remember saying to Emerald, ‘What if I’m not prepared enough?’ She kept saying, ‘I don’t want you to prepare. I just need you to be in the moment.’”

Robbie said this approach eased her anxiety and let her focus on being in her body rather than in her head. She recalled her first reaction to the script, saying, “That script absolutely wrecked me. I didn’t know what was coming. By the end, I was just so full and so destroyed at the same time.” Robbie admitted she had neither read the book nor seen previous adaptations before joining the project.

Jacob Elordi, in comments shared via email, wrote, “Margot is a force. And she makes it look easy. Sometimes I think she has Hermione’s Time-Turner – she can raise a baby, shoot a movie, produce four others, and still meet for a beer at 5 pm.” Robbie said she felt a deep connection to the character. She described Cathy as “a puzzle you have to work out.”
