Quentin Tarantino has garnered the wrath of the internet with his latest comments on Paul Dano. In a recent podcast appearance, the veteran filmmaker named Paul Thomas Anderson’s There Will Be Blood as his fifth favorite film of the century, but criticized Dano’s performance, calling him a “weak, weak, uninteresting guy.” Consequently, his comments have sparked sufficient outrage.
Fans call out Quentin Tarantino for his recent comments
The Academy Award-winning director has singled out The Batman actor as the issue with There Will Be Blood in a recent podcast appearance.
While talking about his favorite films from the 21st century, Quentin Tarantino named Paul Thomas Anderson’s acclaimed 2007 period drama epic in the fifth place, but he followed it up with some sharp criticism. Stating that it could have been number one or two on his list, he called out Paul Dano for being the weak link.
“The flaw is Paul Dano,” Tarantino explained in his criticism on The Bret Easton Ellis Podcast. “Obviously, it’s supposed to be a two-hander, but it’s also drastically obvious that it’s not a two-hander. [Dano] is weak sauce, man. He is the weak sister.” The Inglorious Bastards director added, “[Dano] is just such a weak, weak, uninteresting guy…The weakest f*****g actor in SAG [The Screen Actors Guild].”
Unsurprisingly, these comments did not go down well with the fanbase. Since the time Tarantino made his statement, there have been many comments on social media platforms. Many defended Dano, who is widely considered one of the best actors in the industry.
“Quentin Tarantino is so lucky he makes outstandingly good films because just about every single word that comes out of his mouth is complete stupidity,” one X (formerly Twitter) user wrote.
Another user added, “Quentin Tarantino could not be more wrong about Paul Dano if he tried. I’m not here to ‘cancel’ Tarantino just because I think his opinion is incredibly stupid…But his movie takes have been horrible lately. Like embarrassingly bad.”
Moreover, a third fan wrote, “Please stop interviewing Quentin Tarantino.” Finally, one user defended Dano’s performance. They stated, “I remember a few of my friends not liking his performance, but I thought he was great. He was holding his own alongside Daniel Day-Lewis imo.”
Hence, it is quite clear that netizens are not at all in sync with Quentin Tarantino in this debate. Meanwhile, Paul Dano has yet to comment on the criticism.
