Aaron Eckhart is attracting a new audience as his Western action thriller climbs to the top of Paramount+’s movie rankings. The 2025 film, Thieves Highway, stars The Dark Knight actor as a lawman who faces off against a dangerous gang of criminals involved in cattle theft.
The movie may have flown under the radar upon its initial release, but its recent streaming success has brought it back into the spotlight. According to streaming data reported by FlixPatrol on November 4, Thieves Highway claimed the No. 1 spot on Paramount+ globally, topping the platform’s movie charts in 18 countries.
Directed by Jesse V. Johnson, the film combines a modern Western setting with crime and action. It also gives Eckhart a character whose personal struggles go beyond the usual lawman-versus-criminal story.
What is Aaron Eckhart’s Thieves Highway movie about?
Eckhart plays Frank Bennett, a lawman investigating a series of cattle thefts. After a deadly confrontation, he uncovers a large smuggling operation. Stranded without his truck and cut off from cell service, Frank must take on a dangerous gang led by an ex-military commander.
However, the story also explores Frank’s loneliness. In an interview with ComingSoon, Eckhart explained that the character’s isolation was one of the things that attracted him to the role.
“I think the one thing that comes out in my mind is his loneliness. This idea of living alone, living this life. Sort of, that man that’s lost out there on the prairie, and this is his life. He has friends and everything, but he’s isolated. I sort of live that life myself, in real life. I live out on a ranch by myself. And it’s an interesting dynamic for an older guy, because I’m 57 years old. And I guess he’s the same age as I am [laughs],” the actor said.
The cast includes Lochlyn Munro, Devon Sawa, Brooke Langton, Lucy Martin and Michael Shamus Wiles. Johnson previously worked with Eckhart on Chief of Station and reunited with him for this film.
