Bill Skarsgård & Nicholas Galitzine’s World War II Movie Hits Theaters Today

Fans will be able to watch a new World War II movie in theaters from October 30, 2026. The project, starring Nicholas Galitzine and Bill Skarsgård, is directed by Peter Berg.

The Mosquito Bowl has a runtime of 127 minutes and is based on a true story. Berg’s latest movie will also be available on Netflix. However, fans will have to wait till November 25, 2026, to stream the movie from the comfort of their homes.

Ahead of its release, the feature had garnered a lot of hype. However, the movie got a surprising reception from the critics. At the time of writing this article, The Mosquito Bowl had a 36% Tomatometer rating on Rotten Tomatoes from 14 reviews. In addition to Skarsgård and Galitzine, the film also features Ray Nicholson, Olga Petsa, Tom Francis, and Stacy Clausen.

How Peter Berg brought the remarkable story behind The Mosquito Bowl together

Director Peter Berg made The Mosquito Bowl by drawing inspiration from a 2022 book written by Buzz Bissinger. The book is titled The Mosquito Bowl: A Game of Life and Death in World War II. Bissinger’s book revolves around the real game of Mosquito Bowl, which was played by American military personnel during World War II.

Coming across the story, Berg became interested and, after a dinner conversation, wanted to adapt it into a film. During the dinner, a friend’s son suggested him to make a movie on the story. The idea immediately appealed to him. Although another of his projects, American Primeval, was in its post-production stage back then, he wanted to make the movie.

The plot of The Mosquito Bowl revolves around a group of former college footballers who navigate their patriotism during World War II, in the aftermath of the Pearl Harbor attack. The filming kicked off back in August 2025 in Queensland, Australia. Berg, alongside directing the project, also co-produced the film. Film 44, Brian Grazer with Imagine Entertainment, and Alex Gayner also contributed as producers.
