What happens in the Above the Below trailer?
The trailer opens with tension-filled dialogue between crew commander Jackson, played by Idris Elba and pilot Brooks, played by Caitlin Fitzgerald. Struggling under mounting panic, Brooks admits, “I don’t think I can do this.” To this, Jackson calms her down, saying, “Just breathe.”
The trailer then shows glimpses of Jackson and two other astronauts getting stuck inside the depths of the ocean after their capsule loses its path while entering the planet’s atmosphere.
They try to save themselves as their oxygen runs out. Jackson’s voiceover is heard amid numerous moments of chaos. “Can you hold on to a state of awareness as adrenaline overwhelms your senses?” He continues, “Can you trust your mind will take action?”
“Can you face the improbability of your own survival?” he adds. The trailer ends with Jackson asking an inevitable question in the middle of a deadly race against time – “How hard would you fight to stay alive?”
In addition to leading the cast, Idris Elba is pulling double duty as co-director alongside Martin Owen. The screenplay was written by Elizabeth Morris, Matt Mitchell, and Vicki Sargent from an original story by Owen, with Gina Carter and Matt Williams serving as producers.
Above the Below is scheduled to hit theaters on December 4, 2026.
