Magneto’s Avengers: Doomsday Rumor Hints at a Bigger Role for the X-Men Villain

A new Avengers: Doomsday rumor suggests X-Men villain Magneto could have a larger role than expected in Marvel’s upcoming superhero epic. Sir Ian McKellen will reprise the role one more time in the ensemble, 13 years after playing the mutant villain in X-Men: Days of Future Past. The MCU film will reunite McKellen with Sir Patrick Stewart, both playing new versions of the X-Men characters.

Scooper James Mack has claimed in a new post that Magneto will be present in the final battle of the film. If accurate, it suggests that Magneto will not be killed by Doctor Doom before the third act. Details of the film’s plot are now kept under wraps, and Marvel Studios has not officially commented on the extent of Magneto’s role in the film.

What we know about Avengers: Doomsday so far

Avengers: Doomsday will unite the titular heroes with the Fantastic Four and the Wakandans. The trailers have suggested that the heroes will travel to the X-Men’s universe and fight the mutants. The most recent trailer also revealed that the fight comes to a close as the heroes assemble to face off against Doctor Doom.

The film brings together heroes from across multiple universes, including several characters who existed long before the MCU itself. Inspired by Marvel Comics’ Time Runs Out, the film will deal with the concept of multiversal incursions.

The film is directed by the Russo brothers from a screenplay by Stephen McFeely. Michael Waldron, Chris McKenna, and Erik Sommers have also contributed to the script. The film has already started to shatter box office records ahead of its release.

Avengers: Doomsday is set to hit theaters on December 18, 2026, paving the way for Marvel Studios’ standalone X-Men reboot, which is currently slated for 2028 release.
