On August 21, 2026, Anne Hathaway’s movie Mother Mary was added to the HBO Max library. The movie was released on April 17 this year.
The official logline reads, “Long-buried wounds rise to the surface when iconic pop star Mother Mary reunites with her estranged best friend and former costume designer Sam Anselm on the eve of her comeback performance.”
This thriller-drama was directed by David Lowery, who also wrote and executive-produced it. Along with Hathaway, the ensemble includes Michaela Coel, Hunter Schafer, Atheena Frizzell, Kaia Gerber, Jessica Brown Findlay, Alba Baptista, Isaura Barbé-Brown, Sian Clifford, and FKA twigs.
On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie currently sits with a 69% Tomatometer score and a 60% Popcornmeter score. The critic consensus on the rating platform reads, “Anne Hathaway acquits herself well as a believable pop star in Mother Mary, a modish psychodrama that can be frustratingly obtuse but has style to spare.”
