Scary Movie has set its Paramount+ streaming release date. The sixth film in the comedy franchise will arrive on the platform on September 3 after a strong theatrical run.
The movie brings back several familiar faces from the original series. Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Anna Faris and Regina Hall return as Shorty, Ray, Cindy and Brenda. It aims at reboots, remakes, sequels, prequels and modern horror trends. It also spoofs requels (sequels that revisit an established franchise), spin-offs, elevated horror and origin stories.
The new movie arrives more than 13 years after Scary Movie V (2013) and 26 years after the original. The first five films are already streaming on Paramount+, so fans can revisit the franchise before watching the latest one.
Who all are joining the original cast?
Dave Sheridan, Lochlyn Munro, Cheri Oteri and Chris Elliott are among the familiar franchise faces returning. Their appearances add more connections to the earlier movies.
The new cast includes Kenan Thompson, Kim Wayans, Damon Wayans Jr., Heidi Gardner and Olivia Rose Keegan. Cameron Scott Roberts, Savannah Lee Nassif, Sydney Park, Gregg Wayans, Benny Zielke and Ruby Snowber also join the ensemble.
Michael Tiddes directed the film, with Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Keenen Ivory Wayans, Craig Wayans and Rick Alvarez credited as writers. The Wayans brothers’ involvement also brings back key creative talent from the franchise’s early years.
The story follows Shorty, Ray, Cindy and Brenda as they face another killer. According to Rotten Tomatoes, the film is set 26 years after the group previously encountered a masked killer.
Critics have been less positive about the revival. Scary Movie currently has a 23% Tomatometer score from 135 reviews and a 64% Popcornmeter score on Rotten Tomatoes.
ComingSoon praised the returning cast in its review by saying, “You don’t come to Scary Movie for the plot, you come for the gags.” The review gave the film a 6/10 rating, calling it “Decent” while noting that several jokes fall flat.
Released in June 2026, the latest Scary Movie grossed more than $230 million globally after its theatrical release earlier this year.
