Paul Mescal‘s upcoming Beatles films could take an unconventional approach to bringing the band’s story to theaters. The 30-year-old actor is one of the leads in Sam Mendes’ four-film series, which will tell the Beatles’ story from each band member’s perspective. Sony Pictures will produce and distribute the films worldwide.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Mendes and Sony have discussed releasing all four films on the same day. Sources also told the outlet that the director and studio have discussed reporting the films’ box-office earnings as a combined total rather than publishing separate grosses. Neither the same-day release plan nor the combined box-office reporting approach has been officially confirmed.
Who else is starring in Sam Mendes’ four Beatles movies with Paul Mescal?
Mescal will play Paul McCartney, Harris Dickinson will portray John Lennon, Joseph Quinn will play George Harrison, and Barry Keoghan will star as Ringo Starr. Each actor will lead the film, told from his character’s perspective.
The supporting cast includes Saoirse Ronan as Linda McCartney and Anna Sawai as Yoko Ono. Aimee Lou Wood will portray Pattie Boyd, while Mia McKenna-Bruce will play Maureen Starkey. These characters were significant figures in the Beatles’ personal lives.
Other cast members include James Norton as the band’s manager Brian Epstein, and Harry Lloyd as longtime music producer George Martin. David Morrissey will portray McCartney’s father, Jim McCartney, while Leanne Best will play Lennon’s aunt, Mimi Smith.
The ensemble also includes Farhan Akhtar as Ravi Shankar and Lucy Boynton as Jane Asher. Morfydd Clark will portray Cynthia Lennon, while Harry Lawtey will play Stuart Sutcliffe. Ben Schwartz has also joined the project as American disc jockey Murray the K.
Sony has scheduled the four films for theatrical release in April 2028. The studio has said audiences may watch the films across April, potentially one per week. Sony has not publicly confirmed the proposed combined box-office reporting structure.
