Tulsa King star Neal McDonough will appear alongside Scream actor Skeet Ulrich in Deify. The psychological horror is directed by Carmelo and Nicholas Chimera. The film follows a cult leader who’s on trial after his devoted followers are burned alive. McDonough plays the assistant attorney general and prosecuting attorney. Ulrich plays a manipulative cult leader, claiming that he receives commands directly from God.
The psychological horror story centers on a deadly cult trial
According to Deadline, Deify will focus on what happened after the horrific event, which leaves a group of devoted cult followers dead. The man leading this mysterious cult is eventually put on trial, but his defense takes a disturbing turn. Ulrich’s character, instead of taking responsibility for his actions, pleads insanity and claims that he was following commands directly given by God.
McDonough will play the prosecutor assigned to the case. His character believes in the criminal justice system and is a man of integrity. He will challenge the cult leader’s claims while confronting his disturbing claims and attempt to prove his guilt. The story will explore how manipulation and extreme devotion can lead people to go to extreme lengths.
Ulrich was last seen in the film Street Smart, where he played the role of Sarge. He is known for his role as Billy Loomis in the Scream franchise (1996-2023) and F.P. Jones II in the show Riverdale (2017-2021). McDonough currently stars as Cal Thresher in Tulsa King (2024-Present). He is also known for his work in Band of Brothers (2001), Arrow (2015–2016), and Suits (2014–2019),
Written by Nicholas Chimera, the film is inspired by the real-life events surrounding the 1993 Waco, Texas standoff involving the Branch Davidians church and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms. The film is produced by Jordan Gianeschi, Jacob Rice, and Mike Manning, along with Neal McDonough and his wife, Ruvé McDonough, as executive producers. Deify is set to shoot in Chicago. The release date of the film has not been revealed yet.
