Cold Storage is trending high on streaming after MGM+ debut
Liam Neeson’s sci-fi thriller Cold Storage is now trending on streaming after a subdued run in theaters. Specifically, the film has reached No. 4 on the MGM+ Top 10 overall movies and TV shows chart in the United States. It trails The Westies, From, and Project Hail Mary on the platform’s rankings for July 16.
Jonny Campbell directed the film, while David Koepp adapted the screenplay from his own 2019 novel. In it, Neeson stars as a retired bioterrorism operative who returns to duty with two younger colleagues. Together, they face a lethal fungus that breaks free from a hidden underground laboratory.
Meanwhile, Georgina Campbell, Joe Keery, and Sosie Bacon feature prominently alongside Neeson in the cast. Additionally, Vanessa Redgrave, Lesley Manville, Darrell D’Silva, and Daniel Rigby also take on supporting roles. Rob Collins, Ellora Torchia, Andrew Brooke, Richard Brake, Aaron Heffernan, and Gavin Spokes complete the ensemble.
Furthermore, the film carries an 81% critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes and a 75% audience approval score. The Critics Consensus describes it as “a smart but familiar B-movie throwback” that “delivers campy performances, gooey splatter, and wry sci-fi wit with infectious enthusiasm.” Both viewers and reviewers have responded positively to the 99-minute creature feature.
Cold Storage debuted in the United States on February 13 and earned just over $4 million domestically. The production budget was reportedly around $10 million, although certain estimates place spending closer to $30 million. As a result, the strong streaming performance now offers the film a fresh opportunity to connect with audiences it initially missed in cinemas.
