Liam Neeson’s tense action thriller is getting a new streaming home next month. The fan-favorite movie will arrive on Paramount+ in the near future. While it never reached the heights of the actor’s biggest hits, the film has built a loyal following over the years thanks to its suspense, fast pace, and Neeson’s performance.
The Commuter to stream on Paramount+ next month
Beginning July 1, The Commuter will be available to stream on Paramount+, as reported by the platform’s sneak peek. The 2018 thriller reunites Liam Neeson with director Jaume Collet-Serra after their successful collaborations on Unknown, Non-Stop, and Run All Night. Its arrival on streaming gives action fans another opportunity to revisit one of Neeson’s more underrated films.
What starts as just another ride home quickly turns into a nightmare for Michael MacCauley, played by Liam Neeson. A former cop now working as an insurance salesman, Michael is pulled into a dangerous game after a mysterious woman gives him one impossible task: to find a hidden passenger before the train reaches its last stop. If he fails, countless lives, including his family’s, are on the line.
The thriller also features Vera Farmiga, Patrick Wilson, Sam Neill, Elizabeth McGovern, Jonathan Banks, Florence Pugh, and Dean-Charles Chapman. It was produced by StudioCanal, The Picture Company, and Ombra Films, with Lionsgate releasing it in the U.S.
Released on Jan. 12, 2018, The Commuter earned about $120 million worldwide against an estimated $30 million production budget, making it a profitable theatrical release. It currently holds a 55% critics score and a much stronger 40% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes, along with a solid 6.3/10 rating on IMDb. Many fans praised its nonstop suspense, clever train setting, and Neeson’s convincing action-hero performance despite mixed reviews from critics.
Before becoming the go-to star for edge-of-your-seat thrillers, Neeson earned an Oscar nomination for Schindler’s List and built a reputation as a powerhouse dramatic actor. Then came hits like Taken, The Grey, Non-Stop, and Batman Begins, proving he could handle action just as well.
