The Devil Wears Prada 2 struggles at the box office but brings some good news. The highly anticipated sequel passed a big milestone in its opening week. However, the film is starting to lose steam with audiences.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 drops by almost 57% in the third weekend
A box office analysis from Deadline reveals the film’s collections dropped by nearly 57% in its third weekend. The trade speculates that female audiences may have shifted interest to Curry Barker’s Obsession. Even so, the film has grossed over $546 million worldwide, surpassing the first film’s $326 million total.
According to Box Office Mojo, The Devil Wears Prada 2 earned $18 million in its third weekend in the U.S., down from $41 million the week prior. It is currently playing on over 3,800 screens, down from 4,200 screens the week before.
The Devil Wears Prada 2’s impressive financial success may lead to a third film, as teased by director David Frankel. This is after the reveal of star Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway’s salaries, which saw significant bumps for the sequel. The film’s middling reviews didn’t stop fans from showing up at the theaters.

The film faced tough competition at the box office, going up against the Michael biopic, Mortal Kombat 2, and the critically acclaimed The Sheep Detectives. Despite that, it finished second at the box office this weekend. Following the sequel’s success, fans are now wondering if Disney will greenlight sequels to other classics in its catalog.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is directed by David Frankel from a screenplay by Aline Brosh McKenna, who also executive-produced the sequel. The film is produced by Wendy Finerman, with Michael Bederman and Karen Rosenfelt serving as executive producers. Besides Streep and Hathaway, the film also features Emily Blunt, Kenneth Branagh, Simone Ashley, Justin Theroux, Lucy Liu, B.J. Novak, Caleb Hearon, Helen J. Shen, Tracie Thoms, and Tibor Feldman.
The Devil Wears Prada 2 is currently playing in theaters.
