We don’t write about dogs often, so when we do we want to make sure to tug on your heartstrings and remind some of you that you still have a heart. And in order to do that we need to tell you a story about a Florida dog who was found at a roadside with so much fur you could barely see any of his face.

According to BGE Grooming in Oviedo, a member of the public rescued the dog from being hit by a car and then called reached out to groomers when it was discovered his fur was matted so badly he couldn’t walk or go to the bathroom — so much so that the groomers at BGE described it as a “mummified cast” over his body.

“They were soaking wet, infested with fleas, full of yeast infection and attached like a mummified cast,” the business’ Facebook post said. “The smell was horrendous.”

But the groomers opened its doors at midnight for an emergency grooming. And these are the before and after photos.

Pretty insane. Here’s what else BGE Grooming had to say about the transformation:

“It took two hours just to safely shave his painful mats off, two flea baths because he was so severely infested, two soothing hypoallergenic baths, and lots of love and care!”

Salon owner Kari Falla reveals that they always groom rescue and shelter dogs for free, so this dog, who the salon named “Lucky,” was pampered free of charge.

Lucky was looked over by a vet before placed into foster care where he is awaiting adoption if police don’t find his owner.
