Sony Reveal Prototype Of “Ears-Free” Headphones

South by Southwest (SxSW) is currently taking place in Austin, Texas. The conference involves sets of film, interactive media and and music festivals, that often sees international debuts of new and developing technology.

This year Sony have stepped up to the plate and revealed a prototype new set of headphones called Concept N. In essence they are wireless headphones made up of a band that rests around the neck whilst directing sound up towards the ears, rather than sitting on the ears themselves. You can check out what they look like in this super weird teaser movie.

Using bluetooth technology, the new headphones create a “personal music bubble” and are voice-controlled. There is also an integrated camera, and users can also take phone calls, or even find out about the weather. Others can hear that the user is listening to something when music is playing, but not what it is that is being listened to.

Unfortunately Concept N won’t be available in stores anytime soon, as a spokesperson for Sony reveals in the video below.
