Samsung Unveils the Galaxy View Tablet, the Largest Android Mobile Device Ever

Samsung has lifted the lid on the Galaxy View, its huge 18.4-inch tablet that the company claims is the largest Android mobile device ever.

The device is a big (excuse the pun) addition to Samsung’s line-up, with it set to occupy the same market as the similarly large iPad Pro. However, Apple’s device has nothing on the supersized Galaxy View in terms of sheer scale, with it clocking in at 12.9 inches, almost 5 inches smaller than its competitor.

The Galaxy View was partially revealed in several leaks prior to Samsung’s official reveal of the device, though now we know a lot more about it. Powered by Samsung’s Exynos 7580 octa-core SoC, the device will boast 2GB RAM and storage options of either 32GB or 64GB. It will also feature a front-facing 2.1-megapixel camera, the typical array of Internet connectivity options including 4G LTE support, and a sizeable 5,700mAh battery that offers up to 8 hours of continuous playback.

However, there’s an unfortunate omission when it comes to the Galaxy View’s display, and that is its underwhelming 1080p, full HD resolution. While this would be welcomed on smaller devices, on a screen this size a 4K display would have been ideal, though Samsung likely didn’t opt to go down this route due to pricing issues.

At the time of this writing Samsung has yet to announce the price or the release date of the tablet, though we should expect to hear an announcement shortly. Depending upon how much this beast retails for, though, it looks to be a reasonably attractive purchase for those who consume a lot of media on the go, offering a large screen to access streaming services such as Netflix, Hulu and the like.
