Apple: “We’ll Never Make a Cheap iPhone, Mac or iPad”

Apple have stated that they’ll never make a cheap iPhone or Mac, after revealing that they have no plans to make more affordable devices in order to compete with Android.

Speaking at the Code/Mobile conference, Apple’s product marketing executive Greg Joswiak explained that while the company understands that they are losing out to Android when it comes to manufacturing cheaper devices, they would rather create greater products for their users than try to compete with manufacturers of budget phones.

Joswiak said: “We were talking about some of the mistakes Apple made in the ’90s, and some of it was trying to do things like making cheap products that were chasing market share instead of chasing a better experience. You make that mistake once in your life, you’re not going to make it twice.”

[A mistake Apple made in the past] was trying to do things like making cheap products that were chasing market share instead of chasing a better experience.

He continued: “Our goal is to make the best products with the best experience… we believe that if we make a better product and a better experience, that there will always be a healthy market for that. And a healthy market doesn’t mean we have to be market-share leader.”

Apple is known for making products on the pricier end of the spectrum, though it’s undeniable that they know how to produce quality hardware. While there will always be a market for budget devices, there will also be a market for those who will gladly spend the extra cash for the extra quality, and Apple obviously recognizes this.
