YouTuber Michelle Phan is Being Sued for $7.5 Million

YouTube make-up artist Michelle Phan is being sued for up to $7.5 million by record company Ultra Records, who claim that she has been using copyrighted material belonging to the likes of dance music producers DeadMau5 and Kaskade without the label’s permission.

The lawsuit filed against Phan sees the label seeking a maximum of $150,000 per copyright infringement, with there reportedly being 50 instances of her using the label’s material without its permission. The lawsuit states that Phan “continues to willfully infringe in blatant disregard of plaintiff’s rights of ownership.”

According to TMZ, Phan’s lawyers have claimed that Ultra asked Phan to use their artists’ music in her videos, with Phan stating that she was used as a “promotional tool” for the company and that she “showcased [them] to an international audience.”

Kaskade has spoken out against Ultra’s actions on Twitter, stating that he isn’t suing the make-up artist and that Ultra is filing the lawsuit without his permission, adding: £I can’t do much about the lawsuit except voice support for her.”
