The Perfect Barbecue Pulled Pork Sandwich Recipe

Legend has it Elvis Presley’s favorite pizza was a Memphis creation from a joint near Graceland. It’s only ingredients? Pizza crust, pulled pork in barbecue sauce and mozzarella. And, such a creation is now in your reach with this recipe. Or, you can just make sandwiches with it, if you choose not to honor The King.

Our May Summer Grilling Guyd continues with another BBQ fixture  pulled pork. It can be served alone as an entree, in sandwiches or, of course, on a pizza.

Ingredients:

  • 2 boneless pork loins (2-3 lb. each)
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup steak sauce
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 cups ketchup
  • 2 cups diced celery
  • 1 cup diced green pepper
  • 2 tsp lemon juice

Preparations: Place roasts in oven; add water and salt. Cover and cook on medium heat for 2 1/2 hours or until meat is tender.

Remove roasts and shred with a fork. Set aside.

Skim the fat from the roast juice and discard fat. Drain all but 1 cup of juice. Add meat, celery, green pepper, catsup, steak sauce, brown sugar, vinegar and lemon juice. Stir.

Cover and cook over low to medium heat for 1 1/2 – 2 hours, stirring occasionally.

Optional tip: Top your pulled pork with coleslaw before adding the top bun and serve with sweet potato fries. Or, you know, put it on your pizza, Elvis-style.
