Elon Musk Opens up About Being Bipolar And the “Unrelenting Stress” of His Job

Elon Musk has touched upon his mental health issues and the problems he faces as a result of his high-pressure job, stating that he is bipolar and suffers from “terrible lows” as a result of the “unrelenting stress” of his career.

Musk opened up on Twitter after responding to a follower discussing his Instagram account, pointing out how the photos portray the Tesla and SpaceX founder’s “amazing life.” However, Musk replied by touching upon “the reality,” which he said came with “great highs, terrible lows and unrelenting stress.”

When asked whether he was bipolar, Musk simply replied: “Yeah.” However, he later appeared to suggest that he had not been medically diagnosed with the disorder, adding: “Maybe not medically tho. Dunno. Bad feelings correlate to bad events, so maybe real problem is getting carried away in what I sign up for.”

He later offered an unfavorable comparison to his career, tweeting: “If you buy a ticket to hell, it isn’t fair to blame hell.”

Musk uses his Instagram account to post relatively frequent photo updates of his lavish lifestyle, including images of his Tesla electric vehicles, his SpaceX launches and a few glamorous shots of his girlfriend, actress Amber Heard. But despite the notable perks of his billionaire lifestyle, Musk’s tweets show that as is the case for all of us, his social media presence isn’t quite reflective of the reality of his own existence.
