Every modern man that cares about his looks knows how important manscaping is. This is a term mostly used to describe shaving of private parts and the reason why it has its own, special term is that it needs to be done extremely carefully and in a special way, you can imagine why. Now, before you start wielding your straight razor towards your groin like some kind of Sweeny Todd, take a second and read through these manscaping tips to minimize any risk of injury and ensure your private region is as wholesome as your libido. Here we go.

Don’t Mix the Shaving Equipment

First off, you need to determine which shaving tool is for what. The nether region usually contains some bacteria or fungi that you wouldn’t want to spread to the rest of your body, so make sure you know what is what. For example, the scissors you use to trim down your pubes should never be used immediately after to cut your beard as well. If you only happen to own one piece of scissors (hard times, we get it), at least make sure you’ve cleaned them thoroughly with some strong antibacterial soap. The same goes for all other shaving equipment. You really don’t want to mix them.

Start with Scissors

Whether you just want to trim down the bush (because nothing beats the 70s hairdo) or plan on going completely bald down there, the first thing you should use are the scissors. You can’t go straight for the razor and expect a clean slate. First, you need to go through it with scissors, to ensure a smoother and less eventful shave afterward. Now, speaking of shaving, many experts actually say that you shouldn’t go for anything shorter than one-inch hair because it offers the right amount of protection for these delicate parts and still looks presentable, at least.

Use the Shower

One of the best places to handle this kind of shaving business is, of course, the shower. The water softens the hairs, creating a natural lubrication that makes shaving a lot easier and a lot less risky. If possible, try to use a hot shower because the heat also helps soften the hairs up. However, you don’t need to be in the shower for the first part, when you use the scissors. At that point, the hairs are longer and coarser, so they might clog the drain. Use the shower for that precise, clean, razor shaving after that.

Shave with the Grain

Now, this tip is something that is true for every type of shaving, including the manscape. You should always shave with the grain, meaning in the direction the hair grows. Shaving against the grain is faster and more effective, but it is also much more dangerous as you’re more likely to get some razor burns and cut yourself. Again, this is true for every type of shaving, but you should make sure your razors are sharp enough and fairly new if you’re using the disposable ones.  Also, don’t forget to use a shaving foam or a gel that suit your skin type to avoid irritation of any kind.

Deal with Cuts Immediately

You can be the most cautious and precise person in the world, but the fact is that accidents happen and sooner or later, you will cut yourself shaving. The most important thing to remember is not to panic and wash the area right away. You can either use a non-invasive soap and water or alcohol to prevent an infection, but be warned – it will hurt. Most of the time, all you need to do is apply some pressure and wait for the cut to heal itself. However, if the bleeding doesn’t stop in a couple of minutes, you should really go see a doctor.

Hopefully, these tips on how to manscape will come in handy next time you decide to get near your manhood with something sharp in your hand. Just follow these guidelines and you’ll be a manscaping pro in no time.
