The “IKEA Challenge” is the New Dumb Fad Sweeping the Internet

Over the past week a dumb new fad branded the “IKEA Challenge” has started to gain traction online, with prominent e-celebrities helping to make IKEA employees’ lives a living hell by recording themselves trying to pull an “all-nighter” in the Swedish chain’s stores.

The challenge came to life in the UK, with London-based YouTuber Faisal “Carnage” Shinwari filming himself and friend “LordOmar” trying to stay in an IKEA store past closing hours. The crux of the challenge is that given the size of your average IKEA store, it should therefore be easier to stay the night in one without being detected by security or other members of staff. The pair are so confident that they will succeed in the challenge that they even pack a laptop with them in order to watch Netflix while camping out in the store. However, their plans are ruined when a security guard spots them lying on one of the store’s beds, with him calling the police and bringing an end to their attempt at the challenge.

The IKEA Challenge is a spin on the Fort Challenge, which has seen YouTubers build makeshift forts in stores such as Walmart in order to hide out in them for the evening. Although there’s no fort-building in this new challenge, it’s yet another way to severely irritate retail workers who just want to go home after a long shift, and most certainly don’t want to be dealing with 20-year-old YouTubers trying to sleep on their flat-pack furniture for an evening.

Take a look at the IKEA Challenge in action below:

Hopefully this new fad doesn’t catch on too much, otherwise we imagine there will be some very disgruntled IKEA employees over the coming months.
