The Wicked + The Divine TV Series Optioned By Universal Television

Last summer, Jamie McKelvie and Matt Wilson launched The Wicked + The Divine through Image Comics and it quickly became a critically acclaimed best seller. Now it may become a TV series as well.

Deadline is reporting that The Wicked + The Divine has been optioned by Universal TV and Milkfed Criminal Masterminds, the production company headed by husband and wife comic writers Matt Fraction and Kelly Sue DeConnick. Fraction and DeConnick set up a two year development deal with Universal earlier this year to bring their own properties to television and to help other creators sell their projects as well.

The Wicked + The Divine follows The Pantheon, a group of men and women who are superhumanly empowered after merging with deities. But that power has a major price. The toll of that transformation is so immense that it greatly reduces their life expectancy

At next month’s San Diego Comic-Con International, The Wicked + The Divine will be up for several Eisner Awards (the comic book industry’s answer to the Oscars) in three categories: Best Cover Artist for McKelvie and Wilson, Best Colorist for Wilson and Best New Series.
