Exclusive Video: History’s Sons of Liberty on Blu-ray

Earlier this year, History debuted a three part miniseries entitled Sons of Liberty, which explored the earliest days of the American Revolution.

Ben Barnes headlined Sons of Liberty as founding father, Sam Adams; with Dean Norris as Ben Franklin; Michael Raymond-James as Paul Revere; Henry Thomas as John Adams; Ryan Eggold as Joseph Warren; and Jason O’Mara as George Washington.

The creative team behind Sons of Liberty had the Herculean task of conveying the scale of the Revolutionary War on a TV budget. Sons of Liberty is heading to Blu-ray and DVD next week, and CraveOnline is proud to present an exclusive video that sheds some light on how the battle scenes were filmed.

In this clip, Make-up and Prosthetics designer Davina Lamont, and Director of Photography George Steel describe how 400 extras and roughly a dozen horses were used to create the illusion of an army of thousands. There’s also a slightly NSFW bit at the beginning of the video, as Lamont sets up the gory demise of one of the soldiers in the battle.

The video is part of the larger featurette called “The Choreography of War: Creating the Battles and SPFX of Sons of Liberty.” The home video release of Sons of Liberty will contain two additional featurettes: “Lensing Liberty: The Making of Sons of Liberty” and “Men of Independence: The Historic Figures of Sons of Liberty” in addition to the entire epic miniseries.

Sons of Liberty hits Blu-ray and DVD on Tuesday, May 26.
