David Lynch Rejoins The Twin Peaks Revival At Showtime

It looks like Agent Cooper is going to get out of the Black Lodge after all.

Weeks after David Lynch abruptly pulled out of the nine episode revival of Twin Peaks on Showtime, the dispute has finally been resolved. Lynch signaled his return to the project with a post on twitter, which was quickly followed by Showtime’s official account confirming that Lynch will direct every episode of the new Twin Peaks.

Over at The Hollywood Reporter, Showtime President David Nevins dropped another bombshell: the Twin Peaks revival will be longer than the previously announced nine episode run. “Totally worth the extra brewing time and the cup is even bigger than we expected. David will direct the whole thing which will total more than the originally announced nine hours. Preproduction starts now!!”

Even in the midst of Lynch’s seeming departure, Showtime publicly expressed its desire to keep the long planned revival alive. Lynch and his Twin Peaks co-creator, Mark Frost had already written the orginally planned nine episodes of the revival, but the series would have faced a backlash from fans if Lynch hadn’t returned to the director’s chair.

According to most reports, Lynch and Showtime were initially in conflict over the budget per episode for the Twin Peaks miniseries. Showtime reportedly attempted to renegotiate its agreement with Lynch before he walked away from their ongoing talks.

With this disagreement now a thing of the past, the Twin Peaks revival is once again on Showtime’s 2016 schedule. Several cast members from the original Twin Peaks series are slated to return, including Kyle MacLachlan as FBI agent Dale Cooper.
