Machinima Doubles Down on DC Comics Shows

Last year, Warner Bros. took part in a massive $24 million funding round for Machinima. Today, some of the benefits of that deal became clear.

At the Machinima new fronts, it was announced that three DC Comics inspired original shows will premiere and run on Machinima. The previously announced Justice League: Gods and Monsters Chronicles (pictured above) was renewed for a second season before the series launch next month. Veteran animation producer, Bruce Timm is spearheading Gods and Monsters, which ties into an upcoming animated feature film with a much darker take on the Justice League.

The first season of Justice League: Gods and Monsters Chronicles will run for six episodes. The newly announced second season will be ten episodes long.

DC’s second show on Machinima will be called DC’s Hero Project. The format sounds like a mixture of Project Greenlight and The Apprentice as eight contestants vie for the chance develop a live action Starman movie based on the DC comic book series by James Robinson. DC Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns will serve as the main judge alongside a number of guest judges and celebrities.

Machinima also has a live action adaptation of Dial H For Hero which will be updated as #4Hero. The new series will follow a young woman named Nellie Tribble who finds a smartphone app that can give her brief periods of superhuman abilities that are tied to whatever happens to be trending at the moment.

A new version of Robocop is also heading to Machinima via MGM TV. In Robocops, viewers will return to Delta City through the eyes of “the now standard-issue RoboCop officers” that will be filmed in first person point of view while incorporating footage from “security cameras, dash-cams, and drones.”
