Chris Hadfield Set To Release Debut Album

Everyone’s favourite astronaut, the now-retired Chris Hadfield, became a household name when he brought space into our homes via video blogging while at work – now his first album, which is still untitled and was recorded while aboard the space station, is coming out this fall.

“The serenity and grace I felt while orbiting our Earth, weightless by the window, gave a whole new place to write and perform music,” Hadfield said in a release (The Canadian Press). “I’m delighted to be able to share these completed works as a new way to help tell the stories of early space exploration.”

Hadfield recorded the vocals and guitar while orbiting earth during a five-month stay that wrapped up in May of 2013. He announced his retirement shortly thereafter, and has since served as a guest speaker on a number of television shows and discussion panels. He has also become a New York Times’ bestselling author with his memoir An Astronaut’s Guide to Life on Earth.

He wrote on his Facebook page yesterday: “Space album! Happy to announce that we will release a full album’s worth of music written and recorded in space in Fall 2015 with Warner Music Canada. Exciting!”
