Russell Peters Calls Incoming Daily Show Host Trevor Noah A Comic “Thief”

Homegrown comedian Russell Peters is accusing the incoming “The Daily Show” host Trevor Noah of stealing his jokes, says The Canadian Press.

The accusations came out during an interview on Channel NewsAsia’s show “Conversation With” with Peters, where he said that Noah has not only stolen jokes from South African comedian David Kau but from himself as well. “He’s stolen material from David Kau. He’s stolen material from myself,” he said (CBC News). “That’s like stealing somebody’s underwear and putting them on… That doesn’t make any sense. Why would you do that?… That’s all I can say.”

Noah was announced as Jon Stewart’s predecessor earlier this year, and it was Stewart himself who tried to put the fire out when Noah came under fire for writing what some called racist tweets. “It’s going to be well worth it,” Stewart assured viewers who give Noah, who hails from South Africa, a chance.

Noah is a comedian, producer, DJ, television host, and actor, with a varied resume that includes several very successful stand-up specials. In 2012 he received the South African Comics’ Choice Award for Comic of the Year. On March 30th, Comedy Central announced that Noah would take over as host of “The Daily Show” when Stewart steps down later this year.
