Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Teased in Black Ops 2 In-Game Poster

Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 has been teased by Activision in a viral marketing campaign inserted into Black Ops 2.

Following the game receiving a small patch earlier this week, YouTuber Drift0r noticed that two posters in the game’s multiplayer maps now feature the Snapchat logo overlaying a QR code. When the QR code is scanned, it reveals a short, distorted video message.

Obviously there’s very little information to glean from the short clip, but given that the QR code was inserted into Black Ops 2 and not the more recent Advanced Warfare, it’s safe to assume that Black Ops 3 is on the horizon. Also, given that Black Ops creator Treyarch is the studio in line to develop the next Call of Duty game, this assumption seems more or less guaranteed at this point.

A new Call of Duty announcement isn’t exactly the most exciting part of our year given that it’s a series which dishes out annual releases, but kudos to Activision for at least trying to stir up some sort of emotion inside of us other than tired ambivalence. It hasn’t worked, but at least the effort’s there.
