David Duchovny Says Two More Original X-Files Stars Are Returning

David Duchovny is supposed to be doing PR for his upcoming miniseries, Aquarius on NBC. But all anyone wants to talk about is the recently announced revival of The X-Files, which will reunite Duchovny with his co-star, Gillian Anderson and series creator, Chris Carter.

During an appearance on The Late Show With David Letterman, Duchovny played into the renewed interest in The X-Files by revealing that two more of the series’ original stars will be back.

“Mitch Pileggi will come back,” revealed Duchovny. “And the Cigarette-Smoking Man — if that means anything to anyone — will be coming back.” It’s no surprise that Pileggi will reprise his role as FBI Assistant Director Walter Skinner. Pileggi appeared in all nine seasons of the series and both X-Files feature films.

However, the inclusion of the Cigarette-Smoking Man as played by William B. Davis is unexpected, given his character’s gruesome death in the final episode of The X-Files. But it wouldn’t be the first time that Cigarette-Smoking Man cheated death on the series.

TVWise is also reporting a rumor that Robert Patrick and Annabeth Gish are also set to reprise their roles as John Doggett and Monica Reyes, respectively. Patrick and Gish were brought into The X-Files during the final two seasons to help carry the show after Duchovny left the series. Doggett and Reyes were last seen driving off together in the series finale.

The X-Files six episode event series will begin filming this summer in Vancouver.
