The ‘Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation’ Trailer Takes Off

It’s been 19 years since the first Mission: Impossible movie toasted into theaters, giving then-superstar Tom Cruise his first (and only) big blockbuster action franchise. Since then, he’s been dead set on clinging onto the Mission: Impossible series, churning out mostly great sequels (the less said about Mission: Impossible II the better), and attaching great talent to direct them. Following on the heels of Brian De Palma, John Woo, J.J. Abrams and Brad Bird comes Oscar-winner Christopher McQuarrie, whose previous Tom Cruise actioner Jack Reacher kicks more ass than most people realized (mostly because hardly anybody saw it).

Their new film, Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation, arrives in theaters on July 31, 2015, which means it’s just about time for the first full trailer. A sixty second teaser struck the internet this weekend, which was a complete waste of time because the full trailer debuted just 24 hours later. You all know those advance teasers are just a scam, right? You know that they’re just using the same footage they were already going to release 24 hours later to trick you into watching the same stuff twice, right? It’s lazy marketing, and it’s pretty sad that it works.

So we waited to post the Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation trailer until the real version was available, and it doesn’t disappoint. Ethan Hunt (Cruise) and his team of badasses played by Ving Rhames, Jeremy Renner and Simon Pegg are on the run – as usual – and this time they’re facing off against an anti-IMF team. It’s kinda funny that we never saw one of those before now. It didn’t take James Bond five movies to introduce SPECTRE after all.

Joining our heroes against the so-called “Rogue Nation” is actress Rebecca Ferguson, who supplies the trailer with the prerequisite bikini shots but also a lot of impressive fight scenes as well as some mystery about her true identity and motives. Is she the villain or is it all just a smokescreen so we won’t learn that Benji (Pegg) has gone rogue?

We’ll find out this July, but until then, enjoy the high-flying Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation trailer. Let us know what you think!
