Details of Walmart-Exclusive Golden Mario amiibo Confirmed by Nintendo

While an advertisement seen at Walmart seemingly confirmed this news, Nintendo has officially announced what every faithful gamer feared: the Golden Mario amiibo will be a Walmart exclusive. In a press release, Nintendo gave all the details for the bleak announcement.

There is still no word on the availability of the leaked silver amiibo, but the consumer base is in agreement that this is a terrible idea, given Nintendo’s recent track record for handling amiibo production.

1. Golden Mario amiibo will release the same day as Mario Party 10

Again confirming the Walmart’s advertisement, Nintendo is doing everything it can to sell Mario Party 10, which has been a tough sell since the annoying motion controls got added. Fortunately(?), Mario Party 10 will be compatible with amiibo.

2. It’s not just the bundle that’s Walmart-exclusive

While the Walmart advertisement implied it might just be the Mario Party 10 amiibo bundle that’s Walmart-exclusive, the press release says in no-uncertain terms “The Super Mario amiibo – Gold Edition will be sold exclusively at 3,000 Walmart stores in the U.S.” For context, Walmart operates more than 4,000 Walmart stores across America.

When people thought it was just a bundle, they were still pissed, and rightly so. Nintendo has simply not realized how many people want these, so the availability has been scant, to say the least. Cutting off the entire supply to one chain can only exacerbate the problem.

3. The Golden Mario amiibo will retail at $12.96

This news comes two days after Nintendo quietly dropped the price of several amiibo to $9.99. Suspicious timing, no?
