The Boy Next Door: Ryan Guzman on Your Mother’s Cookie

CraveOnline: There are a lot of jokes in the movie that it seems like you’re making for you and for Jennifer Lopez, and no one else.

Ryan Guzman: Oh yeah.

“It got pretty wet.”

Yeah, yeah.

That’s an interesting line to walk across as an actor, where it’s like, this is obviously a joke but there’s an element of threat to it. But it’s hilarious.

That’s another thing too! You’ve got to say it the right way or it looks like a cheeseball act again. If would have been like [sleazy voice], “Hey, things got pretty wet her, guy!” it just wouldn’t read as well. So again, saying it matter of fact just kind of amplified the joke. And then “I love your mother’s cookie” was an ad lib from me.

Nicely done.

That Rob loved so much that he asked me to do it again, and he kept it in!

”’I love your mother’s cookie’ was an ad lib from me.”

It’s in the trailer, I think?

I feel honored that it’s in the trailer! [Laughs.]

You should get a co-writing credit for that.

No, no! I don’t want any of that. I’ve got my own stuff that I’m writing right now.

Are you really?

Oh heck yeah!

What are you writing?

I’m writing short stories, I’ve written a script. I’m actually writing a script right now. It’s a drama, a really, really gritty thing. You know, [like] the first Rocky, but it’s based off of my own MMA experience. It’s kind of a story that no one really knows about: the MMA fighters, what the mentality is. It’s not glorifying the fighting, it’s glorifying the person.
