Nominations For Canadian Screen Awards Announced

The nominations for the Canadian Screen Awards have been announced – the awards will be handed out during a gala event in Toronto in March and will be hosted by comedienne Andrea Martin.

The Canadian Screen Awards look at home-grown productions and talent who excel in front of the camera and behind-the-scenes in Canadian film, television and digital media.

“W5,” the longest-running documentary series in North America, is heading into its 50th season next year and received seven Canadian Screen Award nominations for investigative pieces. “CTV National News” with Lisa LaFlamme has been nominated in the category of Best National Newscast, and LaFlamme is once again up for Best News Anchor, National. The series “Orphan Black,” however, is leading with 13 nominations (for best TV drama series and best actress for star Tatiana Maslany), as is the film “Mommy,” from acclaimed Montreal director Xavier Dolan.

Other projects that received numerous nods include David Cronenberg’s “Maps to the Stars” with 11 nominations, and the series “19-2,” “Call Me Fitz,” and “Mr. D.,” all of which got 10 noms each. In all there are 128 categories.

Martin will lead the gala awards show on March 1st, which will be broadcast live on CBC.
