Wet Hot American Summer Series Is Coming To Netflix

Two years ago, rumors emerged that the cult classic comedy film, Wet Hot American Summer would be reborn as a miniseries with several of the cast members from the movie reprising their roles. Now the project may finally be happening.

E! Online is reporting that Netflix has given the greenlight for a “Wet Hot American Summer” series with the film’s screenwriters, David Wain and Michael Showalter on board as executive producers. Wain also directed the original film, which followed the misadventures of counselors at a summer camp in 1981.

The Wet Hot American Summer film featured Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler, Bradley Cooper, Christopher Meloni, David Hyde Pierce, Molly Shannon, Janeane Garofalo, Marguerite Moreau, Michael Ian Black and Elizabeth Banks with Showalter also appearing in the movie.

It’s not clear if any of the original cast will return for the “Wet Hot American Summer” series, but it’s been a longstanding rumor that the entire cast would return in either a prequel storyline or a sequel series that picks up ten years later.

According to E!, the “Wet Hot American Summer” series will begin production in January 2015.
