There Is No Prince Show In Toronto Tonight

How it all started, no one knows, but after rumours of a secret Prince concert at Toronto’s Massey Hall took over the internet yesterday, fans turned up in droves to stand in line and wait for the “Purple Rain” singer.

According to people on the scene, barricades had been set up outside, and employees from inside Massey Hall were posting on social media that instruments like Prince’s drums were being set up on the stage. However, seven hours after fans started to line up outside the iconic music venue, concert promoters made the announcement that Prince would not be performing.

Members of Prince’s band, 3rdEyeGirl, tweeted last night. “For all those who waited in line, I apologize for any disappointment caused by the confusion,” tweeted Toronto guitar player Donna Grantis. Drummer Hannah Welton added the day’s events were “a total mix up” and that, “there was never a show confirmed” (CBC News).

Prince has been on the music scene since the late 70s, releasing an incredible 34 studio albums, his most recent being Art Official Age (he has released an album every 1-2 years since the start of his career). One of the industry’s most talented instrumentalists (playing an unidentified but plentiful number of instruments, from guitar and percussion to horns), he’s dabbled in acting, embarked on 26 tours over the last three decades, and has also won seven Grammy Awards.
